RM> RM>--Rick The graphics stuff called by turning on the graphics mode (something like ESC+(B or (0 if I remember), and then printing the entire 0-128 ASCII set. Although I've upgraded from a RM> 100A to a 100B, I still only have the 100A manuals. As you'd expect, RM> these Appendices are not in the 100A Owner's Manual. I wasn't aware that the A differed from the B in that regard. I'm sure the keyboards are the same - i.e., both have the Compose key and light. RM> I have seen a Compose Sequence file, but it seems that there were only RM> 40 or 50 characters listed, and smily faces and vertical lines were RM> not among them (to name a few). Does Appendix E show 128 Compose RM> Sequences? Appendix E shows about 80 Compose sequences, all three-key. The two-key sequences are for diacritical marks (umlaut, circumflex, tilde, etc.). Many of the sequences are formed logically (e.g., "one quarter" is formed by Compose-1-4); so you can experiment and get most of them. RM> BTW, what's the difference between Appendix E (Compose Sequences) and RM> Appendix F (character codes)? Appendix E only shows what you get when you activate the Compose key followed by various character combinations. Appendix F shows the full 8-bit character set (but not 256 characters, because not all are assigned), plus 7-bit tables for each of the national keyboards. Suggest you contact your local DEC marketing office and see if you can get a copy of the Terminals and Printers Handbook. Most of this information is in there. --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (1:109/123) ------------------------------ Date: 01-09-90 (07:50) To: GEORGE THEALL Subject: GATEWAY From: FRANK MALLORY I just started getting direct feeds of comp.sys.dec and comp.sys.dec.micro. I note one message from Neil at WVNET that is a follow-on to one I entered here; I assume it will show up here shortly. Judging from the 10 messages sent so far, I have the feeling that comp.sys.dec will have heavy Unix orientation, as contrasted with the VMS orientation of the Fido VAX conference. I'll set these Internet conferences up as regular echo message areas here this evening, and see how it goes. --- * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (Opus 1:109/1 ------------------------------ Date: 01-10-90 (09:32) To: FRANK MALLORY Subject: GATEWAY From: GEORGE THEALL FM>I just started getting direct feeds of comp.sys.dec and comp.sys.dec.micro. For messages appearing originally on IDM/csdm you'll probably see a lag of 2-3 days. That's just the way Fido works, I suppose. BTW: Since you now can see both sides of the picture, what do you think about the format of the digest? FM>I'll set these Internet conferences up as regular echo message areas here FM>this evening, and see how it goes. Just a quibble - comp.sys.dec and comp.sys.dec.micro are USENET newsgroups, not Internet conferences. George --- ~ EZ 1.23b4 #263 ~ The Answer?
