I have a Compaq Deskpro/25 with 300 meg hd and a tape drive from the Compaq. Up until now, we have used sytos--tape operating sytem provided by Compaq--and I found that sytos in my ways is not a perfect solution for my need. So I am interested in finding a way using tar command to back up the hard disk. Specifically, is there a way of capturing the tape drive as a logical drive or as part of the directory hierarchy? I found that on the unix machine that I have used there was a command like "getdevice" which allocates the tape drive to me as a file structure whose name I forgot. Is there a similar command for the pc? Please e-mail me. Thanks a lot. Min
