Unix boxes around the place. There are a lot of non-hard drive macs around also, and it would be nice to make them more useful. The problem is that it is very hard (actually impossible) to put all the inits, fonts, da's, drivers, etc . on an 800k floppy. I'm not expecting a Mac Plus to cold boot over the network, but it seems Apple has created the problem by requiring all system related files to be in a single system folder. A nice extension of the OS would be to allow the system to access printer drivers, fonts, and DA's located on an arbitrary volume. If symbolic links were introduced, this would be a snap. Perhaps some existing third party software would already help out? Does Suitcase do the trick? Please email responses to me as well as posting, as it is easy to miss things in the flood going through c.s.m.
