Message-ID: <1990Jan9.213328.1486@oracle.com> Date: 9 Jan 90 21:33:28 GMT Sender: news@oracle.com Reply-To: gstein@oracle.uucp (Gregory Stein) Organization: Oracle Corporation, Belmont, CA Lines: 31 I have a Mac II at home that I would like to turn into a UUCP node where I can have email sent to and read/post to newsgroups. What are the steps to doing this? Here is a sort of a sketch of what I think I know about this: 1) I know there is something called "UUPC" for the Mac that handles most of this, but it seems like I remember someone said it was buggy? Is it and is it the right piece of software for what I need? 2) I think I have to contact a local business or school in the area (Mountain View, CA) that would provide me with a news/mail feed. Are companies/schools generally willing to do this? Do they usually charge money (since I would be using their computer time to get newsgroups and mail and my mail may sit on their machine for a bit before I pick it up). 3) The node that I create needs to be registered. Apparently, I can send this to nca-maps@apple.com for my area. Is this all that is required besides setting up information with my feed? I would be very grateful to any pointers people might have. I've been using UUCP for years, but never looked into setting up my own node. If anyone is interested in the information that I gather, send me mail and I'll forward you the info in a couple weeks. Thanx much in advance. -- Greg Stein -- This posting bears no relation to my employer Arpa: gstein%oracle.uucp@apple.com UUCP: ..!{uunet,apple}!oracle!gstein
