For historical reasons (which are probably now very inappropriate), '-n' in xterm is *not* an abbreviation for '-name' but rather is short-hand for '-xrm *iconName:', exactly as Bruce suggests. I would urge everyone to try to get out of the habit of using xterm's -n just because it is the only client that has it, to avoid the confusion.
