(I get a 'Client is not authorized to connect to Server' error). That's probably because you're running under xdm (good for you!) and are using MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE access control to the R4 server, rather than the weaker host-based access control. You can run R3 clients by simply doing "xhost ".
