Pat That is a generalization, Pat, and I don't believe one can make such broad statements about "deafies" and more than they can about hearing people. I have encountered Deaf who were quite patient with me and my attempts to sign, which go only a bit past fingerspelling. On the other hand, I've encountered Deaf Culture zealots who regard anyone not fluent in ASL as some kind of extraterrestrial cretin.
