Yee) Organization: NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA Lines: 49 KSC SHUTTLE STATUS - WEDNESDAY, JAN. 3, 1990 STS-32 - COLUMBIA (OV-102) - PAD 39-A Overnight, final ordnance devices were installed aboard the vehicle, the firing circuits have been tested and the orbital maneuvering system and reaction control system tanks have been pressurized for flight. Now that the pad has been reopened for normal work, tech- nicians are busy closing out the aft compartment and are scheduled to have the doors on for flight by Thursday morning. Batteries to power the avionics on the Syncom satellite will be charged today. The launch countdown is scheduled to begin ticking at 4 p.m. EST Thursday, Jan. 4 at the T minus 43 hour mark. Several addi- tional hours of hold time have been included in the count to al- low resolution of any problems associated with the newly refur- bished launch pad. STS-32 astronauts will be arriving at KSC at about 4:30 p.m. Friday to prepare for the 10-day mission. Launch remains scheduled for 8:06 a.m. EST, the opening of the 58 minute window. STS-36 - ATLANTIS (OV-104) - OPF BAY 1 Work is continuing to prepare Atlantis for the STS-36 mis- sion next month. Transfer of the vehicle to the VAB is planned in about two weeks. The vehicle was powered up yesterday and the payload bay doors were opened for final inspections and cleaning. Leak checks of the crew cabin were successfully completed yesterday. STS-31 - DISCOVERY (OV-103) - OPF BAY 2 Today, the vehicle will be powered up and the payload bay doors opened. A minor GSE hydraulic leak during the holidays wetted connectors associated with power which had to be cleaned and verified prior to powering up the vehicle. Orbiter systems testing will be underway today. STS-31 SOLID ROCKET BOOSTERS - VAB The left aft center segment was transferred to the VAB yes- terday and stacking activities are underway.
