I think it may be very helpful to new NOTIS sites that are in the early stages of imple- mentation. However, now that I am at Loyola, I do have to wonder about how useful it is for more mature sites. The manner in which NOTIS tables, programs and data are all intertwined makes it very difficult for us to use. In order for our staff to get the most out of the test region, it must reflect the production region. We have loaded the QRD files for use during serials control training that NOTIS will do this week. We have only worried about getting it set up for that though and will not be concerned that abends occur for circulation transactions since they are outside the scope of the training. Once training is over, we will go back to our own files. Considering the many problems of the earlier NOTIS test file, I think QRD is a vast improvement. Still it has to be viewed in the context of allowing NOTIS trainers to provide quality training with good records set up with tables that can be used as models for new sites. I have to cut this off, but I would just like to add that the security tables are set up in a restrictive way that is not suitable for NOTIS training. Since they want "wide-open" security when they train you will need to change the $$$$ to MAST instead of DISP or you won't be able to do much other than look at records.
