I find that it helps to get the very weak stations, but on the stronger ones it doesn't help the clarity much. I suppose the AGC in the radio is pretty effective and tends to even things out a bit. I am not using mine outdoors, as these condos where I live have a neighborhood association that regulates things like that (%*#$ totalitarians!) I plan on moving to a real house soon (in a couple of months) and plan on setting up some real antennage! -- Just the facts Ma'am
