I have both a Sony AN-1 and a Datong AD-370. The AN-1 is a nice antenna for use with a portable radio -- it comes with adapters to fit various kinds of portable radios, and it has relatively limited amplification to avoid overloading the receiver. It also looks very nice, and comes with a mounting bracket that can be installed a variety of different ways. It is nowhere near as sensitive as the AD-370, though. The drawback to the AD-370 is that it will overload small portable radios (but it has a button to turn off the preamplifier in that case). Overall I think the AN-1 is well-optimized to small portables, and is certainly a lot better than a wire antenna, at least for limited-space use. -- Eric Roskos (roskos@IDA.ORG or Roskos@DOCKMASTER.NCSC.MIL)
