	DATAFILE THE WORLD:
	On this date in 1989...North Korea and South Korea launched their
first co-operative project in 43 years. They agreed to work together to
establish a tourist facility. 
	In 1987, Wall Street Journal reporter Gerald Seib was detained on
spy allegations in Iran. But he was released five days later.
	In 1986, 14 deaths were reported in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.
Anti-government rioting raged for two days.
	In 1979, the Ayatollah Homeini arrived in Tehran to become Iran's
leader. He'd been in exile in France. His return sent the Iranian
revolution into overdrive.
	In 1964, Indiana's governor asked radio stations to ban the song
LOUIE LOUIE by the Kingsmen...on the the grounds it is obscene.
	In 1960, the first civil rights sit-in was organized in Greensboro,
North Carolina.
	In 1949, the giant Mount Polomar telescope was completed.
	In 1939, R-C-A began Project X, leading to development of the 45
r-p-m record. 
	In 1865, U-S President Lincoln proclaimed National Freedom Day to
formally abolish slavery in his nation. The constitutional amendment was
ratified in December of that year.
