Canada's Department of Industry, Science and Technology and Department of Supply and Services named Sun a "rationalized" supplier based on factors such as the amount of purchasing Sun does in Canada, research and development, its ratio of imports to exports and a commitment to manufacture here by 1995, said Carol Smith, marketing communications manager for the company. The designation puts Sun on a preferred vendor list for government purchasing. "We do business with the government now," Smith told Newsbytes, "and we expect it to increase substantially."
