INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) -- Charles Barkley scored 29 points and Philadelphia extended its NBA win streak to nine games with a 112-108 victory Wednesday night over Indiana. Barkley, who also pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds, scored 9 of the 76ers' final 12 points in the final five minutes to hold off a late rally by the Pacers, who lost for the sixth time in their past seven games. Derek Smith scored 8 points during a 15-7 Philadelphia run over the final three minutes of the third period and the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. The Pacers responded with a 14-6 streak over the next 5:34, sparked by 3-point shots from Reggie Miller and Chuck Person, to pull within 104-101 with 3:26 remaining. The 76ers, 27-16, extended their longest victory streak since 1986 while beating the Pacers, 23-21, for the seventh straight time over two seasons. Person made his first six shots, half of them from 3-point range, and scored 13 points in the game's first 2:53 to lift the Pacers into a 15-4 lead. But Philadelphia answered with a 21-4 run over a 5:46 span, taking a 31-25 lead on Smith's fast break layup with 1:11 remaining in the quarter. Indiana never regained the lead. The 76ers made 9 of their first 10 shots in the second period, jumping to a 52-43 lead on Mike Gminski's basket midway through the quarter. Indiana rallied with 8 straight points in 76 seconds late in the half, tying the game at 58 1:45 before halftime on Person's long rebound basket off his own miss. Johnny Dawkins hit a basket at the halftime buzzer to give the 76ers a 62-58 lead. Ron Anderson, a former Pacer, scored 12 points in the second quarter, hitting all 6 of his first-half shots. Gminski added 18 points for the 76ers, who had seven scorers in double figures. Miller led Indiana with 26 points, while Person added 24 and Vern Fleming contributed 20.
