QUEBEC (UPI) -- Pat Verbeek scored once and added an assist and five different Whalers scored to lift the Whalers to a 5-1 victory Saturday over the Quebec Nordiques. Hartford took a 3-0 lead after one period on goals by Todd Krygier, Ray Ferraro and Dave Tippett. Krygier's came on the power play midway through the period when he knocked in a rebound in front of the net. Hartford outshot Quebec 12-2 in the second period and went ahead 5-0 on goals by Verbeek and Mike Tomlak. Michel Goulet scored for Quebec five minutes into the third period when he knocked a rebound under a sliding Peter Sidorkiewicz. The power-play goal came on Quebec's ninth shot of the game. Hartford outshot Quebec 36-18 in the game. Sidorkiewicz improved to 11-12-4. Greg Millen's record with Quebec dropped to 3-9-0. The Nordiques have the worst record in the NHL, 9-37-6.
