LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- Ken Venturi likens the Pebble Beach Golf Links to Candlestick Park for its rotten weather and persistent complaints from players. ``It's like they say, `Certain horses for certain courses,''' said Venturi, the 1960 Crosby winner and CBS analyst for this weekend's event, which has been renamed the AT&T National Pro-Am. ``I think the people who play well here truly like the courses. ``(Mickey) Mantle used to say Candlestick Park was the toughest place to play. (Willie) Mays thought it was fine.'' The Pro-Am is played on three courses -- Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Cypress Point. Sunday's final will be at Pebble Beach, a picturesque Northern California layout overlooking the Pacific. ``It's special because of the territory,'' Venturi said. ``It probably has the two most famous courses in the world (Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill) and four of the most famous holes in the world. The 18th at Pebble Beach is the most famous finishing hole in all of golf. ``The scenery is great when the weather is great, with the blimps shots showing the beauty of the area.'' Venturi has firsthand knowledge of the problems caused by rain and brisk winds. ``In 1960, I had a two-shot lead entering the last round, shot a 77 and won by three (shots),'' he said. The CBS analyst believes the modern player complains more than his predecessor. ``When they played in the olden days, they played through all kinds of weather,'' Venturi said. ``I think they've (PGA Tour officials) called it off a little too soon at times. We played in more adverse conditions than they do today.'' CBS will televise two hours of the third round beginning Saturday at 4:00 p.m. EST. Much of the final round will be shown Sunday during a 2 1/2-hour telecast beginning at 3:30 p.m. The rest of the weekend sports fare (All times EST): _S_a_t_u_r_d_a_y _B_a_s_k_e_t_b_a_l_l College (12:00-2:00 p.m., CBS), Georgetown at St. John's.
