Hello again.

I promised a posting to summarise answers to my problem, so here goes.

The answer is.... DONT BOTHER!

When a DCL command file is set running it is hooked into the terminal
driver.  A job has to be attached for a read from the terminal to succeed.

Hence, its best to set the job running in batch.
