Keywords: IIe,School computing, networks Message-ID: <22333@adm.BRL.MIL> Date: 3 Feb 90 21:58:58 GMT Organization: Ballistic Research Laboratory Lines: 35 Folks, My wife's school has collected nearly enough cash register receipts from the Giant supermarket chain to get another Apple II computer. The school presently has 10 IIe machines on a "network" which presently uses a floppy disk "fileserver." A hard drive is to be added any day, now. It has been suggested that they get something other than another IIe for the system. Choices include a GS (more receipts required) and some version of the Mac (the Plus, maybe?) I suggested that they stick with getting as many IIe machines as possible so that they can get to the point where only two children will have to share one machine when the class goes to lab. I also suggested that she ask the PTA to purchase a few used IIe machines; they're running $400 to $1000 here, based on condition, accessories, and software. Basically, I advised her that it would be a waste for an elementary school to get inolved with a lone GS or Mac. DO YOU AGREE? If not, please send me your reasons why they should go for a GS or a Mac when two to three children still share a single IIe workstation in the lab. Most of the children are under age 11. There are no 'hackers' on faculty. If possible, send e-mail ( abc@brl.mil ). If not, post your answers, and I'll try to get to them before the articles expire. Thanks for your advice. _Brint -- Brinton Cooper
