I had a WD1003-MM2 with a miniscribe drive (3053, I think) and found that 2:1 is MUCH better than 3:1 interleave. Data transfer went from 166KB/s to 250KB/s (not sure about the units here, but the values are correct). It really depends on both the drive and the controller. With a WD1006V-MM1, I interleaved at 1:1 and got about 500KB/s data transfer.
