Your replies were most helpful. For the record, I followed a suggestion to look through a Radio Shack catalogue for "sub-C" rechargeable cells. I never before knew that there were such things. So I bought ten and a soldering iron and made a battery pack. Total cost: $40, an $84 savings on Zenith's price for a replacement pack.
