The main symptom was that I was getting disks that were acting locked even though they weren't in fact locked. Someone suggested rebuilding the desktop file, but the machine wouldn't do that since it thought that the disk was locked. The solution turned out to be to rewrite the boot blocks using SUM II. >>Dave
