There is a problem with emacs 18.55: If I type M-DEL (i.e. character 255) from an xterm window, emacs goes to sleep for a very long time. No input is accepted, not even C-G. If I say kill -INT from an other terminal, I get the "Quit" message after some minutes, and emacs works as normal again. Other characters with the 8th bit set show up in Emacs with the 8th bit stripped. This problem has probably been discussed before, but I haven't read gnu.emacs.bug as Emacs has worked just fine on our HP machines.
