What about a mailing list? I went and looked in rec.music.misc. With a 14 day expire (oldest article was 1/20, today is 2/2) I found 934 articles, with 38 that mentioned this bunch in some way. That figures out to 4%. 38 postings in 14 days is not anywhere near enough traffic for a newsgroup, IMHO. Go with a mailing list until you've got about 200 names on it--then, you'll have enough people to vote in a group, and enough posters to justify it.
