A method that I just tested and seems to work is this: /(whatever you're interested in)/:M (note the upper case M!) This takes the articles hat you're interested in and marks them to return. Then when you enter the article selection level use the 'c' command. This will mark everything read and exit you from the newsgroup, whereupon the M command from the kill file will mark all the relevant articles as *un*read. You can then reenter the group and read only the articles you want. If you don't want to go to the trouble of hitting 'c', you can put the line '/./:j' in the kill-file, but 'c' will probably be faster.
