Between possible problems with different versions of make -- something we've already had fun with, notably the discovery that many AT&T makes violate the SVID (!) -- and the relatively simple nature of the problem for us, I agree with Mark: Imake is considerable overkill. I think we can get the same result, making the makefiles easier to use, with less complexity. It probably won't happen right away.
