Re:  Question about shortage of science and engineering students.
     There was a front page article in the Christian Science Monitor of
December 14, 1989, entitled, "Demand for Engineers Soars as Technical
Shortage Looms in US."  It refers to studies by the Department of Labor
and the National Science Foundation, with mention of various experts.  You
may want to take a look at that and see if you can find any of the
references they mention.  Maybe the aforementioned experts can help you as
well.
