You missed the critical qualifiers: >>...the new Kickstart 1.4 ... cannot be loaded into the A1000 without using ---------------------------------------------------------------1111111111111 >>additional memory. --11111111111111111 According to what I've read in comp.os.amiga (and .tech), WorkBench routines will not included in the KickStart 1.4 ROM, since they needed the room for the FastFileSystem code. 1.2 and 1.3 LoadWB just calls ROM subroutines. 1.4 LoadWB will have to load entirely from disk. As a result, 1.4 uses additional disk space and main memory on ALL systems that use WorkBench, not just A1000s. (Of course, if you don't use WorkBench, you can recover that space :-) In 1.2 and 1.3, FFS is only loaded if you need it: floppy only systems don't have to "waste" memory because of something they don't use. I do agree that, like most sales blurbs, the wording of the posting did encourage A1000 owners to jump to the worst possible conclusion. Personally I find such practices reprehensible. As for 512K ROMS, presumably those are needed for the mythical A3000 ;-) Selden E.
