Although the NCRIPTAL awards program mentioned by Richard ostensibly
exists to recognize the development of software that may be of
educational value, from afar it looks like it is driven by
some other set of concerns and the people who run it are either unaware of
or uninterested in network applications.

There is much good in Richard's suggestion that some mechanism for
recognition for those authoring important net software be developed.
If CREN is sitting on extra money, it would take very little to fund
such a program and the result could do immeasureable good for the
Bitnet community.
