If they don't decompose, but instead burn, they then give off -- CO2! (Yes, I realize that if the tree is used, these problems will not occur. :-) ) And while I agree that Alabama is a wonderful buffer between Florida and the North (going up to 75 here today), a friend claims that its greatest benefit is keeping Mississippi away from Georgia. (I don't subscribe to this theory, I hasten to add.)
