Dalton Software Etc. when I took off), the number of things left to the store manager were steadily decreasing, and I have little doubt that the manager can't do much of anything without drawing the wrath of her bosses. Software Etc. doesn't pay commissions. I liked that, because it didn't make much difference to me whether you bought something or not. We'd open as many programs as you wanted to try out, rather than pushing you to buy something and leave so we could grab the next customer. On the other hand, it means that employees get paid diddly squat --- they can either pay for the high rents in the malls or good employees. Guess which one B. Dalton goes for? Because they don't pay anything, they expect droids. They're usually right. You might bump into a good employee here and there, but by and large, they're people who might as well as be flipping burgers --- after all, the burger machines are computerized these days too. -- jamesd@techbook.UUCP ...!tektronix!nosun!techbook!jamesd TECHbooks: The Computer Book Specialists - Voice: +1 503 646-8257 12600 SW 1st - Beaverton, OR - 97005
