As of version 1.36.2 (the last one I tried -- the current version is 1.36.4), g++ worked fine on HP S300 machines, if you configure it as "hp9k320g" (NOTE the "g" -- I don't think it makes much sense to compile it otherwise, as you then cannot run a debugger on your code). This requires the use of GNU as, GNU ar, GNU ld, GNU ranlib, etc., etc..
