I have been happily transfering text files from a VAX to a tower
for quite a while now using FTP.

Today I tried to transfer a binary file (a VMS data file with
packed data in it)[note: I did have binary selected].

The resultant file looked extremely strange with extra bytes all
over the place.  Speaking to a VMS person he seemed to think it
looked like the VMS control information had come across to.

Obviously if this is true then this isn't very useful on a Tower.

Does anyone know of some way I can get either the VAX or the Tower
to handle this correctly ?  or is it only meant to be used between
like machines i.e. VAX to VAX or Tower to Tower ?
