The crucial point was that the released configuration file for this system erroneously assumed that the C compiler has signed chars which is not true for IBM's compiler. After changing that definition the program could be generated without further problems. Another suggestion was to use the GNU C compiler, what I wanted to try some day anyway, time permitting.
