I remembered back in > the early 80's, the decoder's price was around $500 or > more. And the same goes to the TDDs, too. My friend bought > a new tty for 1200.00 back in '73, so we can see how much Laurie, I bought a one of the first decoders when they came out in 1981 and then it was only $250. Granted, I did think that high even then but I don't recall ever seeing any for sale for $500. Now, I do recall TDDs being a bit more costly, depending on the brand. My parents bought several C-Phones for themselves and for us and they were $750 then, the ones for us were $650. It was the policy to charge the hearing people more for TDDs and sell them $100 cheaper for the HI people. C-Phone, Inc. has since gone belly up but my parents are still using their old C-Phone because they like the 26 inch screen. Mine as well as my siblings old C-Phones have since gone kaputooey! BTW, I'm still using the old original decoder on my spare TV. As long as it works, why not? If the chips come out within a year or so on the new TVs, I'd like to be the first on the block to have one. Uh...er... that is on a Mitsubishi BIG screen TV.
