And I read comp.unix.wizards. But I know no such thing. : (And it's also in the Frequently Asked Questions posting in c.u.q.) (No it isn't. Check again. It says that that is a "good rule of thumb".) The question under discussion is not a trivial one and it is certainly not one that merely reading the manuals would give you the answer to. Let's put it this way: both of the posted answers I've seen are wrong. Neither deals correctly with rm's options. And neither deals properly with duplicate file names. The problem is not a simple one. Not a *hard* one, but one that is worthy of a little discussion.
