I'd like to know a little more about the fellow, like what he was likely to have been doing at that time. E.g., where was the 88th regiment stationed? How many men were in it? I'd like to learn something about the man himself. He wrote his name in the books, but it is a sort of script (Spencerian?) which I cannot decipher. If I could decipher the name, would it be possible for me to access archives that describe this person's military record, or are such things non-existent or sealed records? If I can request to see these records, where would I go to see them? Also, should I decide to sell these books, is there a newsletter or something for people who trade in military memorabilia of this vintage?
