Here's a status report. I just sent out the first "real" posting, although it's a small one. For all who reported problems with the "request" id, the correct address for messages to me is ibmbin-request@crdgw1.crd.ge.com (request - singular). Since the alias table is updated every few days that just started to work. For all who noted that uuencode was using blanks instead of accent grave (`) blame it on SCO. I found a copy of uuencode in /usr/bin which is in my path ahead of the local version. My local version was fixed in April 86, by the date in the file. Backlog: I don't have it, but I have told Rahul that I'm now ready to have it, although I thought we did that before. At any rate, I have a few things to send out over the next few days, and then the backlog should be here. If you want to send me something - do it! Let's not wait for the backlog, although I will send out the backlog stuff first, along with a list as soon as I get it. Feedback: First, unless you have trouble with the 1st real posting, I know I'm getting out. I have had hundreds of people tell me, and detail some of the things I mentioned above. I think you can just let me know if there is trouble. And my thinks for all the nice stuff people said. Shareware: At the moment I'm going to label shareware as such and send it. There's just too much good stuff to bypass. I will *not* send out crippled versions of anything. I want to send out a few GIF viewers, since we haven't had any in over a year. CSHOW7.2 was shareware of the "if you like it pay for it" type, while the newer 8.0 is "pay for it or stop using it" type. I will accept suggestions about this and similar stuff, but this is *not a vote*. I'm looking for input, but I will decide on the quality of argument, not the quantity. Games: I'm planning an April 1st deluge of games, assuming that someone has some good ones. Big postings: Look for them to be posted a few parts every day, with some small stuff at the same time. That will keep new stuff coming out frequently. Archive service: When the next disk is on sixhub I will start offering archive service by mail, bbs, and (maybe) uucp. Until then I don't have the room, and will only have the stuff I send out in any case. Review service: I have lined up some people to be reviewers. You will see a X-reviewed-by line in some headings. Virus checking: I will use the latest version of two virus checkers, and run the software on a machine which has full CRC checks of everything. Use at your own risk. And this is a lot longer than I planned, but will be part of the monthly statement of direction when I write one. -- bill davidsen - davidsen@sixhub.uucp (uunet!crdgw1!sixhub!davidsen) sysop *IX BBS and Public Access UNIX moderator of comp.binaries.ibm.pc "Getting old is bad, but it beats the hell out of the alternative" -anon
