There is a draft proposal (tentatively, 1003.4) working its way through the IEEE POSIX standardization process, currently entitled "Real Time Extentions for Portable Operating Systems". The proposal includes a standardized application program interface for concurrent, multi-threaded programs, but there is no commitment to a particular implementation tactic; coroutines, kernel-supported threads, and "1 process per 'thread'" all seem to be permissible. For more information, contact Nawaf Bitar at the Open Software Foundation (nawaf@osf.org) who, I believe, is Chairman of the responsible subcommittee. -- Scott Marovich Hewlett-Packard Laboratories M/S 1U15 CSNet : marovich@hplabs.HP.COM P.O.
