On a lot of unix systems, messages that have no group on that system
end up in a newsgroup called "junk".  Try looking through that newsgroup
and see if the articles are showing up there.

If so, point out to news administrator that the files are still there
on your system, whether he wants to set up the newsgroup or not, so he
might as well set it up, it's not going to cost anything but 5 minutes
of his time.
