Actually, it sounds more like the OS is corrupted.  Try reinstalling it.

(Your description of the problem in Finder, which I deleted above for no
readily apparent reason, doesn't make any sense to me because you don't
"click" in the destination to copy files.  You drag the files and release
them over the destination.)
