I've never heard of RDISK before but notice it is available on some PC-oriented bbs's which I frequent. Is it generic MS-DOS? Is there a separate Rainbow version? If you're considering switching to another program, let me recommend ADJRAM. You can adjust the size of virtual disk in 1K increments without rebooting, although there is a minimum size (either 32K or 64K, I can't remember). It's great for those times when your programs *NEED* extra memory. If you don't have a copy of ADJRAM, I can grab it from our local user's group library, uuencode it, and send it to you via e-mail. Just give the word, Amer. AN>Anyone out there with a HD with very little on it who wants to AN>try repeating what I did and report your results??? After hearing what RDISK did to you, are you kidding? :-) George --- ~ EZ 1.23b4 #263 ~ GTHEALL@PENNDRLS.UPENN.EDU (ARPA Internet) ------------------------------ Date: 02-11-90 To: PATRICK FINK Subject: XATACH ETC. I says something about mini-exchange. What is a PF>Mini-exchange. They ARE for using a Mini-Exchange, one of the cleverest devices DEC has ever manufactured for its serial devices. In essence, its a switcher. Up to seven serial devices and one modem can be plugged into one mini-exchange (ME), and, throught a series of escape sequences, redirected to one another. Even if they are at different baud rates etc. The ME is smart enough to refuse the connect b/c another users has use of that port, and ask if you would like to wait in queue until the other users disconnects. If you are interested, I wrote a version of x-attach/detach for any DOS machine that uses a FOSSIL driver. At the time I needed to have my AT share my many DEC printers, and also connect the AT and the RB via a serial connection so as to xfer software via KERMIT. In the end, I also connected it to my VAX. That put 3 computers and 4 printers on my ME. Nice product! You just have to match up the baud rate and the bits/parity settings; what you set them to is not so important (though you'll want at least 2400 baud in order to drive the printer full-tilt), but it is critical that both sides match. --- QM v1.00 * Origin: Still Servicing the Rainbow - Maybee Forever (1:101/1.0) ------------------------------ Date: 02-13-90 (11:29) To: * Subject: MS-DOS 3.X FOR RAINBOW?
