This is a "prerecorded" answer to the question of how to connect a NEC Multisync to a VGA 15-pin connector. I am writing this on a system with an original NEC Multisync monitor connected to a VGA card using an adaptor cable that I made myself. The parts for the connectors cost me under $5.00. If you are so inclined, or if you have a friend who is a bit handy, you can make the adapter yourself. I won't explain the manual operations necessary. If you don't know how to do it, better not waste your time! The following is for an adaptor that accepts your existing cable that has a male 9-pin connector, and connects to a 15-pin VGA card's female connector. The connections are as follows: Female DB9 Male Hi-density DB15 1 ------------------------ 1 2 ------------------------ 2 3 ------------------------ 3 4 ------------------------ 13 5 ------------------------ 14 6 ------------------------ 10 --- 6 | --- 11 The wire can be any ordinary hookup wire. The parts all fit into a single connector shell of a type that receives a connector at each end. I mail-ordered the parts from Digi-Key (1-800-344-4539). They are of the Tex-Techs brand. Digi-Key part no. Descr. 709F-ND Female DB-9 connector shell for crimp pins 82S-ND Crimp socket 815M-ND Male hi-density DB-15 connector shell 85P-ND Crimp pin 909P-ND Type TT plastic shell (holds a connector on each end) I have also found a vendor of inexpensive adaptors. The company is National Computer Accessories (916-441-1569). They list the following, either of which will meet your needs: FM-0915K DB9 Female to Hi Density DB15 Male adaptor for NEC monitor to VGA. $7.89. VGA-NECMM 6-foot DB9 Male to Hi Density DB15 Male cable for NEC monitor to VGA. Note that this is a cable that replaces your existing cable. -- John Dudeck "You want to read the code closely..." jdudeck@Polyslo.CalPoly.Edu -- C.
