I've written a text based TSR and I'm wondering how to make it
compatible when it pops up and the computer is in graphics mode.
Ideally I would save the graphics screen, switch to text mode,
do my thing, switch back to graphics mode, and restore the screen.

I'm not sure if this works nor how to do it. Any suggestions?
