  I am basically coming to the conclusion that my Packard Bell 286 
  machine is a piece of crap and am interested in picking up another,
  hopefully better 8-), replacement/backup in the same catagory.

  ALR (Advanced Logic Research) is a local company out here, and they 
  put our a box called the ALR 286 PowerFlex.  I can get it locally
  for $1100 (286, 3.5 floppy, 1Mb Ram, 40Mb disk).  The enticing aspect
  is that the CPU  plugs into the bus, so that you can replace the 286 
  with a 386SX (~$300) or a i486(~$2600).

  COMMENTS?

  Does anybody have any good or bad things to say about this unit and/or
  my mentality [8-)].  The main thing is $price$, since $1100 is about
  my limit (since I need to add a monitor card, at least to get up
  and running).  The advantage (it seems to me) is that I an upgrade
  when/if my budget allows.
