Is your hard disk a 120 MB drive? If so, the disk may be going bad. Are you aware that IBM recalled some of their 120 MB drives? (well, they didn't CALL it a "recall".) Do not worry. IBM will replace the drive FREE - ON SITE. But you had better contact your dealer ASAP, because there may be a time limit on the free replacement.
