A year or so ago I got 'uw' for the Mac. uw is a terminal program that would allow you to have multiply windows open with a (Unix) process running in each window. A (slightly long) description of uw is as follows : - You run the Mac-version of uw on the Mac. You'd get a window (80 x 24) that was connected to the comm port. - You login into a Unix system (via direct connect or modem). All this would be through the 80 x 24 window. - Once connected to the Unix box, you would run the Unix uw. The two uw's would chat briefly then the screen would clear on the Mac and you'd get a blank screen with a command bar at the top. - You move the mouse up to the command line and pull down a menu under 'Command' or something. You click on the 'New Session' and up would pop a window. It would be a session on the Unix machine. You would carry on like any Unix session. - You could pull up another window and you'd have another Unix session. You could resize the windows and the local uw would inform the host-uw, so vi and such would function properly. The unix-uw code was given since you needed to compile it on your Unix host. The Mac-uw was given out as executable only. My question is : Does such a critter exist for IBM PC's/clone's ? Given that VGA machines are getting more and more popular, I would think (hope) that something like this would exist. Has anybody written a ibm_pc-uw (ie, just the pc part of uw) ? I understand the mechanism's involved, but would rather not have to write something myself... Note: Since I don't get a chance to read this newsgroup very often, if possible, please reply via e-mail. If there's enough interest, I'll summarize and post what I hear. advTHANKSance.
