One thing that sometimes works (and is definitely worth trying) is to open it with MS Word, which is more lenient. Then you can open the Word file with MWII, if you want to. If you don't have Word, there is a shareware DA called 'Quill' which I have used which reads MW files and text files... Or try some other utility.
