(We weren't terribly worried about it in OSx 4.4, since we didn't support HoneyDanBer TCP/IP connections. In OSx 5.0 we do, so uucpd checks universes.) The best solution, I think, is to use the telnet socket, instead of uucpd. This is the way "real" SVR3 UUCPs work, anyway.
