I use the following command to print to my HP Laserjet IIP.
First I create a print file with the software, ie Ventura Publisher,
GEM, or whatever with the supplied driver for either the IIP or II
and then use the following:
cat -u <filename> >/dev/lp &

I also could not get the lp command to work!
