Path: utzoo!attcan!uunet!tropez!dlucy From: dlucy@tropez.UUCP (Doug Lucy) Newsgroups: comp.windows.x Subject: Unix V/386 and TCP/IP Keywords: tcp/ip windows Message-ID: <139@tropez.UUCP> Date: 16 Feb 90 01:48:08 GMT Organization: DC Pro, Falls Church, VA Lines: 36 We're hoping to start porting our s/w to X Windows in June and I'm looking to put together the hardware for our development. The eventual "picture" should look like: Unix V/386 3.2 running on a 386-33 w/ cache 8 Mb RAM TCP/IP using a WD8033E card X11R3 development sys Locus's DOS Merge (to allow Windows/386) The real testing will occur on 286-based "terminals", on which: MS-DOS running on 286-12 1-2 Mb RAM TCP/IP using WD8003E Cardinal VGA 512K 16 bit card (1024x768x16, 800x600x256) Samsung SyncMaster 2 Interactive and AT&T are the two vendors currently in the running. My questions: What's wrong with the above picture? Am I missing something? What TCP/IP should I put on the 286 terminal? Is there a DOS PD version? Should I consider getting X11 somewhere other than Interactive or AT&T? How does the MIT distribution work? What can I expect (or not) in the way of printer drivers? Will we be writing our own Epson 7-color or Kodak CVP? Thanks for any help. -- "It's such a fine line between clever..." < Doug Lucy DC Pro > "...and stupid." < uucp: uunet!tropez!dlucy > "Yeah, stupid." < bbs: 703-370-8672 >
